Amy Dodson joined Dean Karnazes in Grand Rapids, Michigan, for his 35th marathon in The North Face Endurance 50. She writes:

"... As a physically challenged athlete, I am an incredibly appreciative runner. I lost my leg and half of my left lung to cancer over 20 years ago. I know what it is to be truly sick, and permanently disabled. And I know what it is to be healthy again, to have the opportunity to run, to embrace life, and appreciate every single day. I recognized Dean's love for life, health, and fitness in his book and couldn't pass up the chance to run with him. It was an experience I will treasure forever."
