If you weren't present you missed a great time, if you were present you know how
much fun you had. I'm talking about the Team Toledo Triathlon Club Adopt a Street
A.K.A. trash pick up, chaired by Glenn Luther. This year we were greeted by
the Red Bull girls who were proud to donate Red Bull to all of the participants. If
you haven't seen the custom
Red Bull Minicooper,
you are in for a treat. Think of
a big motorized cooler that you can drive! How cool is that?
The trash pick up was completed in record time this fall as the participants had
a speedy agenda to keep. Immediately following a thorough clean up of Sylvania
Ave. was the Da$h 4 Ca$h. The Da$h was a 2.5 mile prediction run on the red trail
at Wildwood with all proceeds benefiting the Lori DeGross Benevolent Fund.
Prediction runs are fun. Anyone can win. The rules are simple: predict how long
it will take you to run a known distance, run that distance without the aid of a
watch and see how close you can get to your predicted time. The run was organized
by the friends of Jeff DeGross (long time Team Toledo Triathlon Club and Toledo
Roadrunners member) who recently lost his brother Lou, to pancreatic cancer.

The early morning drizzle gave way to rays of sunshine just in time for the start
of the run. A strong team of 17 volunteers saw 24 runners toe the line. In the
end, the winner was Louise Miklovic who narrowly missed her predicted time
by 3/10 of a second. The second place honors went to Julia MacLachlan who
just missed her 2.5 mile prediction by 7/10 of a second. Ginger Dankert
took the third place prize only missing the mark by five and 1/2 seconds. These
runners know their running pace! The closest male predictor, Tim Hunter,
was 16 and 1/2 seconds off his prediction. Also worth noting was the overall fastest
finisher, Gregory Turissini, with a finish time of 15:19.6. That's a good
time for the Anthony Wayne CC team runner, considering the trail was wet and
slippery.
Many thanks to all who donated time and energy to this event. A special thanks to
Tim Whitney and Tom Fridrick for conceptualizing, organizing and
managing the event.
