Glass City Marathon Water Stop
|
When:
|
April 25, 2009 - 6:30AM to setup, 7:00AM race start, done way before noon.
New race coarse this year. This year the race starts and ends at the
University of Toledo. The other difference is the race starts at 7:00AM instead of
8:00AM. Which means we get done earlier.
| |
Where:
|
We've been moved. The race director thought we would
be better suited in an area with more space and we reluctantly agreed that the trail
would be a bit tight. So, our new location is at the main entrance (off Central Ave)
to Wildwood Metropark. The bad news is we only see the racers once with about 7 miles
to the finish.
Good news is more space, no neighbors so we can make as much noise as we want, and
we'll be done that much earlier.

What:
|
Team Toledo is working a water/gatorade stop for the Glass City Marathon.
| |
Why:
|
One, it's fun. We always have music, food, and some of us even dress up.
Two, it's a great way to psych'd up for racing season.
Three, it's interesting and a learning experience to be on the other side
of the water stop.
Four, nobody knows athletes better than athletes. Since we're atheletes,
we know exactly what the athletes need.
Five, volunteer points. Even more fun than picking up garbage. But if you still
want to pick-up garbage, you can pick up the cups after the runners toss them.
| |
Note:
|
Important note! Dress for the weather! Last year it was about 70 degrees, but
the year before that it snowed in the morning. Layers work best. If you get too warm,
you can always take off a layer.
Even if it doesn't rain(or snow) you might still get wet because not all water
hand-offs go smoothly. Bring gloves. Wear warm/dry footwear.
| |
BYOB:
|
Bring your own beverage. I'm talking coffee, hot chocolate, or whatever.
There will be plenty of water and Gatorade. But if you want something warm, you need
to bring your own.
