Special Olympics 2008 Report

Saturday May 10 was a beautiful day for the annual Special Olympic track meet held at the University of Toledo. With temperatures in the high 60's and sunny skies more than 350 athletes from 9 counties throughout Northwest Ohio competed in many events ranging from a 800 meter run to a 25 meter wheelchair race. Once again Team Toledo provided volunteers that handled all of the duties on the track including timing the athletes, recording their times, awarding finishers medals and providing lots of enthusiasm and positive feedback to the athletes. Team Toledo has become an integral part of the Special Olympic meet and we were recognized and thanked by the organizers of Special Olympics for our diligent efforts. All the volunteers worked hard to assure a smooth running meet and to help provide a positive experience for the athletes.

Before the meet starts the athletes recite their oath "Let me win, but if I cannot win let me be brave in the attempt". This sets the stage for an uplifting and inspirational day for all the competitors, fans and volunteers including all of us at Team Toledo.

Thanks to all of the Team Toledo members that generously donated their time to this worthy cause :
